CHAPTER 9 - THE FIBONNACCI SEQUENCE AND GOLDEN SECTION

I found working with the Fibonnacci sequence frustrating at first and then fascinating. I became completely 'hooked' by the designs it produced.

9a- Four patterned papers arranged in the Fibonnacci series of proportions, 13 cm, 8 cm, 5 cm and 3 cm

9b- Above pattern cut into four pieces at right angles, also in the sequence. (Arranged with spaces between pieces)

9c- Same pieces arranged in a different way

9d to 9f- I found rearranging these pieces fascinating and have made several more designs shown below. Each design produced was balanced and satisfying.

9e
9f
9g

9h- one patterned and one plain paper cut into strips using the Fibonnacci sequence with strips arranged alternately

9i- above design with gaps

9j- same pieces with alternate strips flipped over

9k- another arrangement of these pieces

9l- two copies of a new Fibonnacci sequence using five strips. Second copy placed upside down next to first copy.

9m- fractured design made by off the above setting strips

9n to 9r- several more designs of my own using the same strips

9s and 9t- two square designs made by placing the strips in a 'log cabin' style

9u- another Fibonnacci sequence cut into diagonal strips, then arranged in three different designs

9v- a series of three squares cut using the formula for the Golden Section.

My Reflections.
This has been a long and challenging chapter. I have learnt so much and I will certainly be using these techniques when designing in the future
